There’s a lot to like about Iowa State's Department of Horticulture especially student clubs, so c’mon and “like” us on Facebook. Just search for us under the ISU Horticulture Club, ISU Turf Club, or ISU Landscape Club.

Our Horticulture Club, founded in 1900, is the oldest student club in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. And because Horticulture Club students grow and sell some really great plants, they are among the best-known and popular students on campus. Horticulture Club students also compete in student competitions around the Midwest, get involved in local community service activities that help beautify central Iowa, and go on field trips to fun and sometimes exotic places.

The ISU Turf Club is legendary on this campus and around the country. They compete at several student competition events such as the Collegiate Turf Bowl which is affiliated with the annual Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Educational Conference and the Golf Industry Show and at the Student Challenge held at the annual Sports Turf Managers Association Conference. Students joining Turf Club get to meet, network, and learn industry leaders who manage athletic fields, golf courses, lawn care companies, and all sorts of other turfgrass operations.

Each year the ISU Landscape Club participates in the very prestigious student competition called Student Career Days sponsored by PLANET (Professional Landcare Network). Over the course of three days, students network with potential employers, learn the latest skills and information relevant to the landscape design/build industry, and go head-to-head with fellow students from around the country in a competition that can be likened to the “landscape Olympics.” Landscape Club students also participate in service-learning projects, and raise money for field trips by building retaining walls and performing general landscape maintenance for local residents.

Pi Alpha Xi, the Honor Society for Horticulture, recognizes junior and senior students with high scholastic achievement and ISU’s Alpha Theta Chapter is one of 40 chapters in the United States.
